Edited in split screen, J-N-N weaves family conversations and research into the Jinn, figures central to Iraqi mythology. Fragmented views of deserts and Baghdad interiors show a society shaped by war, repression and resilience, linking cosmic beliefs with history and memory. The film circles the unspoken, creating an encounter with the elusive and the unseen.

J-N-N ist ein Splitscreen-Film, der Familiengespräche und Recherchen über die mystischen Dschinn, jene Figuren der irakischen Sagenwelt, miteinander verflicht. Bildfragmente von Wüsten und Bagdader Wohnungen zeigen eine von Krieg und Widerstand geprägte Gesellschaft und verbinden kosmischen Glauben mit Geschichte und Erinnerung. Der Film kreist um das Unausgesprochene und schafft eine Begegnung mit dem Unfassbaren und Unsichtbaren.

Wir sind in diesem Jahr mit einem unserer ersten Projekte auf
der Berlinale vertreten. In der Reihe Berlinale Forum Expanded wird J-N-N von Ginan Seidl seine Weltpremiere feiern.
Die essayistische 3-Kanal-Videoinstallation verbindet Familien-gespräche von einer Reise in den Irak mit Recherchen über die Dschinn – schwer fassbare Wesen, die eine zentrale Rolle in der irakischen Kultur spielen.

The essayistic 3-channel video installation combines family conversations that took place in a trip to Iraq with research on Jinn – elusive creatures that play a central role in Iraqi culture.
